Event Overview:
CyberSecurity 101, organized by Google Developer Groups (GDG) MAIT, was successfully conducted on November 22, 2025, at 7:00 PM via Google Meet. The event aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of cybersecurity, raise awareness about digital threats, and emphasize the importance of securing systems, networks, and personal data in today’s interconnected world. With 75 registrations and an active turnout of 50 participants, the session witnessed strong engagement and curiosity among students from diverse technical backgrounds.
The session was designed to be beginner-friendly, focusing on core cybersecurity concepts while highlighting real-world cyber threats and protection mechanisms. The speaker guided participants through the evolving cybersecurity landscape, explaining how cyber attacks occur, why cybersecurity is critical in the modern digital era, and how individuals and organizations can safeguard themselves against common vulnerabilities.
Beyond technical knowledge, the event also focused on developing a security-first mindset.Participants were encouraged to think proactively about digital safety, ethical responsibility, and continuous learning in the field of cybersecurity. The session concluded by motivating attendees to explore cybersecurity tools, certifications, and future GDG-led initiatives to strengthen their skills and awareness.

Highlights of the Event:
Welcome and Introduction: The event began with a warm welcome from the GDG MAIT team, who introduced the theme of the session and highlighted the growing relevance of cybersecurity in today’s digital ecosystem.

Introduction to Cybersecurity: Attendees were introduced to the fundamentals of cybersecurity,including its definition, scope, and importance.
Understanding Cyber Threats: The speaker explained common types of cyber threats such as phishing attacks, malware, ransomware, social engineering, and data breaches.
Basic Security Concepts: Key cybersecurity concepts such as authentication, authorization,encryption, and secure passwords were discussed in detail.
Real-World Case Studies: The session included discussions on real-world cybersecurity incidents and data breaches, highlighting lessons learned and the importance of proactive security measures.
Cyber Hygiene and Best Practices: Attendees were guided on essential cyber hygiene practices such as creating strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, avoiding suspicious links, etc.
Career Awareness in Cybersecurity: The speaker introduced various career paths in cybersecurity, including roles such as security analyst, penetration tester, & security engineer.

Interactive Q&A Session: An interactive Q&A session allowed attendees to ask questions related to cybersecurity threats, tools, learning resources, and career guidance.

Event Timeline: 

The CyberSecurity 101 session commenced at 7:00 PM with a warm welcome by the GDG MAIT  team. The hosts greeted the participants and provided a brief overview of GDG MAIT, followed by an  introduction to the event’s objectives. 

Following the introduction, the speaker began the session by explaining the fundamentals of  cybersecurity, focusing on its role in protecting data, systems, and networks. The discussion  emphasized why cybersecurity awareness is essential for students and professionals alike in an  increasingly connected world.  

The session then moved into a detailed discussion on common cyber threats such as phishing  attacks, malware, ransomware, and social engineering. Real-world examples and recent cyber  incidents were referenced to demonstrate how attackers exploit vulnerabilities. 

In the next segment, the speaker focused on basic security practices and cyber hygiene.  Participants were guided on creating strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication,  avoiding suspicious links, and maintaining software updates.  

The event concluded with insights into career opportunities in cybersecurity, highlighting various  roles and learning pathways in the domain. This was followed by an interactive Q&A session,  where participants actively engaged and clarified their doubts.
